East Midlands Railway, CrossCountry, TransPennine Express, and Northern are the train companies that operate in Sheffield. The Midland Main Line (to London via the East Midlands), the Cross Country Route (which runs between eastern Scotland and south-west England), and the lines connecting Liverpool and Manchester with Hull and East Anglia all pass-through Sheffield station.

The M1 and M18 highways are nearby the city, and the Sheffield Parkway connects the city centre to the highways. The M1 (a route that connects London to Leeds) borders the city’s north-east, passing Tinsley Viaduct near Rotherham. The M18 splits off the M1 in Sheffield, connecting the city with Doncaster before terminating at Goole.
Sheffield Interchange is the city’s major bus interchange; smaller bus stops may be found in Halfway, Hillsborough, and Meadowhall. Following privatization in 1986, there were several new service providers. First South Yorkshire, Stagecoach Yorkshire, TM Travel, Hulleys of Baslow, Powells, G&J Holmes, and Sheffield Community Transport are the current carriers.
